A Duke by Default (Reluctant Royals #2) by Alyssa Cole

A Duke by Default - 4 Stars

Synopsis

Award-winning author Alyssa Cole’s Reluctant Royals series continues with a woman on a quest to be the heroine of her own story and the duke in shining armor she rescues along the way

New York City socialite and perpetual hot mess Portia Hobbs is tired of disappointing her family, friends, and—most importantly—herself. An apprenticeship with a struggling swordmaker in Scotland is a chance to use her expertise and discover what she’s capable of. Turns out she excels at aggravating her gruff silver fox boss…when she’s not having inappropriate fantasies about his sexy Scottish burr.

Tavish McKenzie doesn’t need a rich, spoiled American telling him how to run his armory…even if she is infuriatingly good at it. Tav tries to rebuff his apprentice, and his attraction to her, but when Portia accidentally discovers that he’s the secret son of a duke, rough-around-the-edges Tav becomes her newest makeover project.

Forging metal into weapons and armor is one thing, but when desire burns out of control and the media spotlight gets too hot to bear, can a commoner turned duke and his posh apprentice find lasting love?

Review

This was another adorable story from Alyssa Cole. This story featured Portia, who was a side character in the previous novel within this series. I liked the chemistry between Portia and Tavish. I have only one wish, that at the end of the series we get epilogues for all of the characters and romances in this series.

Bared to You (Crossfire #1) by Sylvia Day

Bared to You - 3.75 Stars

Synopsis

Our journey began in fire...
Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness - beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white hot. I was drawn to him as I'd never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily...

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other's most private wounds...and desires.

The bonds of love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...

Review

This was a re-read for myself. This was not as good upon re-read. I think it's the constant arguing between Eva and Gideon. I still like the series and will continue on with the rest.
